Jayalalithaa sues EVKS Elangovan, AIADMK party takes on Congress

Defamation action for PM-CM meet comment
Chennai: The ruling AIADMK on Tuesday launched statewide demonstrations against the Tamil Nadu Congress and its president EVKS Elangovan, thus keeping the political theater alive and kicking even as the high-spirited prohibition campaign is beginning to lose its sheen.
AIADMK workers burnt Elangovan’s effigies across the state and allegedly attempted to picket the Congress headquarters Satyamurthy Bhavan to condemn the TNCC chief’s alleged derogatory remarks about the Jaya-Modi meeting at Poes Garden, which he had made at a party agitation in the city late last week.
As protests continued to rock the city, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa filed a defamation petition against Elangovan, who remained unfazed and stood his ground, justifying his remarks saying he had not indulged in personal attack and had only commented about the “secret understanding” between the AIADMK and BJP.
TNCC president effigies burnt around the state, cadres in counter protests
In Tamil Nadu politics, it’s now effigy for effigy in the western part of the state. AIADMK cadres burnt the effigies of state Congress president E.V.K.S. Elangovan at 20 places in Salem district alone besides at places all over the state on Tuesday to condemn his comment on their leader and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In counter protests, Congressmen burnt effigies of the AIADMK supremo at the new bus terminal at Salem and in Coimbatore.
AIADMK cadres began staging protests in various parts of the state on Tuesday morning, deploring Elangovan’s recent remarks. In Salem city, the ruling party men burnt the effigies of Elangovan near the old bus stand, Hasthampatty, Thathagapatty, Kondlampatty and the five road junction. In retaliatory action, Congressmen led by the Salem city president Meganathan set fire to an effigy of the AIADMK leader at the new bus terminal, triggering tension in the area. Six Congressmen were arrested in Coimbatore for burning effigies of the Chief Minister.
