12-year-old boy’s heart beats for Kazakhstan girl
Harvested organs airlifted to Chennai, transplanted
KOCHI: The state has added one more feather to its organ donation mission when the heart of a 12-year-old boy from Thrissur was airlifted to Chennai to save the life of a Kazakhstan girl.
The girl, Dilnaz Issan, has been under treatment for cardiac problems for the last few months at Fortis Malar Hospital, Adayar.
Heart of Adith Paulson, a native of Irinjalakuda, who succumbed to death after fatally injured in a road accident, has been shifted for transplant in the 10-year old.
A team of doctors from the Chennai hospital reached the Aster Medcity here by Tuesday noon to harvest the heart. After the procedure that lasted for more than an hour, they carried the organ to Cochin International Airport in an ambulance and then shifted to Chennai by a private aircraft.
The city police authorities created a green corridor for its smooth passage. It took nearly 25 minutes for the vehicle to reach the Nedumbassery airport from the hospital at Cheranalloor.
Liver, kidneys and corne-as of the boy were donated to patients undergoing tre-atment at two city hospitals.
Adith and his father Paulson, a businessman, met with an accident when their car rammed into a school bus at Kumbidi in Thrissur.
The boy’s mother is Shinsy and he also had a sister.
“I salute the sacrifice of the parents of Adith Paul-son for donating his organs to save the lives of many who were in the clutches of death,” Dr Azad Moopen, chairman of Aster DM Health Care Group, said.
“Their difficult decision, in the midst of a devastating personal tragedy, elevates the stature of the family as a living example of compassion.”
Ramesh Kumar, COO of Aster Medcity, and Dr Balakrishnan and Dr Murali Krishna of Fortis Malar Hospital Chennai were also present.
