Warrants issued against two cops

Fast track court sends notice as officers fail to appear
Chennai: A Fast Track court has issued warrants to two investigating police officers for their failure to appear repeatedly before the court in connection with murder and robbery case registered in 2010.
They had not appeared before the court for the past four hearings and as a result proceedings relating to the case have been affected.
MGR Nagar police had registered a case against eight accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC after the gang had waylaid a two-wheeler rider and robbed him in 2010.
The victim had sustained severe injuries. Police arrested two among the accused — D Pandayan and Kavi Arasan. They were also involved in several other cases including the murder of Sankararaman in the famous temple case in Kanchipuram.
According to sources, Judge, XVI Additional Sessions court (Fast Track Court-II), P. Chandrasekaran had directed the investigation officers Pradeep and Stephen to appear before court. However, they remained absent for the last four hearings.
When the matter came up before the Judge on Monday they once again failed to appear and hence the court issued warrants against them.
