Villages hold growth key
CM advocates self-reliance, asks villages to emulate Gangadevipally
Gangadevipally (Warangal): Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday afternoon launched the TRS government’s flagship programme Grama Jyothi, at Gangadevipally in Geesugonda mandal in Warangal. The project is being taken up with a budget of Rs 25,000 crore.
Mr Rao said the project was aimed at planned development of villages. He lauded the people of Gangadevipally for doing a commendable job by solving their problems on their own without waiting for help from the government. He pointed out that all the people in the country are good but are failing as a society.
But he said Gangadevipally had shown what determination can do. He called on all villages to get inspired by Gangadevipally and become self-reliant. This was the reason he was launching Grama Jyothi in the village, he said. He said if all the villages follow the steps of Gangadevipally through the Grama Jyothi programme, the dream of achieving Bangaru Telangana is not far away.
The Chief Minister said that villages should change their agricultural methods and suggested that they implement drip irrigation systems which reduces water use and increases crop yield.
He announced that drip irrigation will be sanctioned to all 600 acres of agricultural land in Gangadevipally. He gave the example of Ankapur in Nizamabad district where seeds were sold to farmers.
He asked people of Gangadevipally to visit Ankapur and study the way farming is done there. Later, the CM also visited Medipally in Nallabelly mandal and launched the Grama Jyothi programme there before he took off for Hyderabad. The Chief Minister was earlier scheduled to tour Warangal on Monday and Tuesday, but the tour was cut short to just one day.
Commissions suck out growth, admit parties:
Commissions paid are a bane of every village development. Interestingly, both ruling and opposition parties admit that it has happened in every government. “Why hide the fact? 50 per cent of the funds are knocked away. Commissions rule the roost at every level and everyone gets their share. This is the main reason villages are suffering. If all funds are spent in a village, no village will be backward. Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has to focus on this in his Grama Jyothi programme,” said former Telugu Desam Makthal MLA, K. Dayakar Reddy Mr Rao plans to spend Rs 25,000 crore in the next four years including Central funds. Since 1956 when Andhra Pradesh was formed, the Congress ruled for about six decades and Telugu Desam 18 years. The TRS government is 15 months old.
Mr Dayakar Rao said this kind of corruption happened in every government and unless this menace is curbed the new programme would collapse like others in the past and people would not benefit. “Steps should be taken to ensure the entire village, mandal funds are spent for the purpose it is meant. Grama Sabha’s should strictly oversee the spending and there should be display of boards on works, contractor and amount spent.
