Trikaripur becomes fifth e-literate panchayat
Kasargod: Trikaripur has become the fifth e-literate gram panchayat in the state after Pallichal, Karakulam, Karuvatta and Mararikulam North. Social justice minister M.K Muneer declared the panchayat as computer literate at a function held in Trikaripur on Sunday.
The ambitious programme has been implemented by the P.N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra, a regional body of the P.N Panicker Foundation, in collaboration with central and state governments.
As many as 6370 people in the 18-60 age group have become computer literate in Trikaripur, with the majority at Udumbumthala ward.
In the first phase, basic functioning of the computer was taught followed by the teaching of sending and receiving of e-mails.
The project commenced eight months ago and has got funds of Rs two lakh each from the centre, state and the panchayat.
“The programme has been envisioned to make literates into e-literates. The success of the programme has been closely connected with the users’ migration from mobile phone to internet enabled smart phone,” said N. Balagopal, Vice chairman of P.N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra.
Kudumbashree provided support in the realization of the project along with the students of various colleges, polytechnic and NSS volunteers.
The teaching session was held at the premises of the library, anganwadis and other work places. Selected computer instructors and coordinators handled classes at the ward level.
P.N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra’s e-literacy programme is being implemented in selected 100 gram panchayats in the state in the first phase including seven in Kasargod district.
