RTCs spar over route lengths

Prior to June 2015, the corporation was not divided functionally and the issue had not cropped up

Hyderabad: There is a huge disparity in the number of kilometres operated by the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh RTCs in each other’s states. This has now become a bone of contention due to the possible impact on their financial condition.

The difference is of about 2.3 lakh km. The Telangana RTC runs services in Andhra Pradesh for about 94,000 km per day, while the APSRTC operates 3.2 lakh km across Telangana.

Prior to June 2015, the corporation was not divided functionally and the issue had not cropped up.

“The interstate operations by the two corporations have to be negotiated. We might need to pull out more buses from our reserves or see that some vehicles that can be transferred are redistributed. After a redistribution of the distance and assets, the disparity can be reduced within two to three months,” said a senior official.
