New rules say parents’ status to determine OBC ‘creamy layer’
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has come out with revised guidelines to determine the “creamy layer” of OBC employees who can avail government schemes and reservations. Though the Rs 6 lakh annual income limit remains for the “creamy layer”, the method to calculate the ceiling has been revised.
The government will consider the parents’ status to determine “creamy layer” instead of status of the candidate applying for the job. In case of women candidates, too, the parents’ status will be considered and not the husband’s status.
The revised guidelines were issued after some candidates working in government departments were categorised as “creamy layer” based on position and salary, when they appeared for recruitment exams for higher positions.
For instance, a candidate who got selected for group-I and was working as a regional transport officer wanted to appear for group-I again with the aim of securing a deputy collector’s post. Such candidates were considered “creamy layer” as per their present Group-I status and salary.
The new guidelines say that current salary of employees should not be taken into consideration, but their family income other than agriculture income should be considered.
