KTDC launches Payasam mela with 10 varieties
KOZHIKODE: With Onam still a few days away, the spirit is already pervasive with the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation’s annual payasam Mela hosted at the Malabar Mansion Counter at Mananchira Kidson Corner drawing crowds on its first day of launch on Monday.
With more than 10 lip-smacking varieties of Payasam, city buffs this year will also get the chance to taste mixed Payasam, an innovation of the chefs here.
Some of the payasams on the menu are paal payasam, ada payasam, ada pradhaman, navarasa payasam (made of both fresh and dry fruits), pineapple payasam, kadala pradhaman, chakka (jackfruit) pradhaman, pazha (plantain) pradhaman and godambu (wheat) payasam.
According to the organizers, payasam mela is organized at 25 KTDC centers across the State and almost 1000 liters of payasam will be served in a day.
This year, expert Payasam makers from different parts of the state will be working to prepare the delicacies for the people, they added.
This year the Mela will showcase pumpkin, pineapple and carrot payasam as variety dishes, which was also tried earlier and a slightly varied recipe of the Ambalapuzhya Palpayasam will also be a highlight during the mela.
All variety of Payasam will be sold at a single price, according to the organizers. One cup of Payasam costs RS 25, while half-litre of Payasam costs Rs 130 and one litre will cost Rs 240. For bulk booking contact: 0495- 2721593/ 9400008545. Cine actress Aleena Mohan inaugurated the Mela on Monday.
