Fewer bus travellers from Vijayawada now

RTC officials expect a further dip of about 10 per cent over the next few months

Hyderabad: There has been a dip of 10 per cent in bus travel from Vijayawada to Hyderabad over the last two months. The dip has been attributed to the ongoing process of shifting of Andhra Pradesh’s power centre to Vijayawada.

RTC officials expect a further dip of about 10 per cent over the next few months. The RTCs have not withdrawn services due to the fall in the number of passengers.

“Once the pattern stabilises, we will have to cut services based on the reduction of demand,” said a senior official.

The Telangana RTC has 10,400 buses and the AP corporation, 12,000. Though the state bifurcation took place in June last year, the RTC was functionally divided two months back.

The emerging shift in travel pattern is expected to prompt a renewed look at the assets division which is pending with the Sheila Bhide committee.
