Cash-strapped Kerala Public Service Commission to levy fee
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Public Service Commission, which is facing a huge financial crisis, has decided to levy a verification fee from candidates whose appointment has been confirmed.
The PSC meeting held on Monday decided to charge Rs 1,000 as the verification fee. The meeting asked the Examination Controller to submit a special report on ways to control the expenditure for conducting examinations as the conduct of the examinations had become a costly affair.
The meeting also decided to temporarily impose curbs on recruitments to anticipated posts. Anticipatory appointments are those made against supernumerary posts.
A huge amount was being incurred by the PSC to conduct examinations before vacancies were reported. In such circumstances, the recruitment to posts based on anticipatory posts have been frozen.
The number of candidates in a class for recruitment test will be increased to 30. At present 20 students are allowed in a class. The PSC has decided to sell old vehicles in order to reduce the expenditure incurred for the maintenance of such vehicles.
The meeting also decided to ask the Government to withdraw the fee charged on grounds used to conduct the physical test for various posts.
The recommendations will be forwarded to the government. Various youth and student organizations have protested against the verification fee.
