3 held for taking bribe from HuJI helpers
2 SB officials, broker helped HuJi aides secure passports
Hyderabad: Two SB officials and a broker were arrested for taking bribe from the HuJI helpers for their passport verification. The constable Basheer Ahmed and Home guard Sheik Saleem, were suspended and arrested by the CCS police.
The broker named Ahsan Zia Ansari, a Mumbai native, who was the middle man between the SB cops and illegal immigrants, was transferring thousands of rupees to the accounts of SB officials for each verification. Meanwhile Special Investigation Team sought 15 days police custody of the HuJI helpers, who were arrested earlier.
The investigation officials revealed that after taking the Indian passport, the illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh went to Saudi Arabia on a tourist visa. The officials are still probing what they did there.
CCS chief, joint commissioner of police T. Prabhakar Rao said that the arrest was made since the cops knew they were helping the illegal immigrants. “They were aware about the identity of the immigrants and still they choose to help them taking bribe,” he said.
According to the police the SB constable, Basheer Ahmed, a 2007 batch constable, has been working in the Special Branch for the last four-and-a-half years. The home guard, Saleem, who was attached to the passport verification cell, used to divert the passport applications of illegal immigrants to Basheer Ahmed for verification. He used to accept huge sum as bribe to do that.
The broker Zia Ansari, came to Hyderabad in 2003 searching for a job, and started staying in Misrigunj. “In 2012, he met a Myanmar national, who used to arrange Adhar cards and voter ID for Myanmar nationals. He later met the SB cops and started arranging Indian passports for the Illegal immigrants taking huge amounts from them,” said a senior police official from CCS.
The SIT officials said that they are investigating the involvement of other government officials, who are involved in issuing voter ID and Adhaar cards for the illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, the probe team is preparing to take the Pakistani national Nasir to different parts of the country, wherever he was moving around in the last five years.
