Sushmita can turn into Hitler

Former Miss Universe, who turns judge for a comedy show, talks about her new role

Sushmita Sen is the latest Bollywood personality to debut on the small screen, as a judge on Comedy Superstar. Talking about her new responsibility, Sushmita says, “As a performer, we look for applause, but judging a show comes with a huge responsibility as we have the job of making or breaking somebody’s aspirations, dreams and career. I don’t think it is something you can be good or bad at, but be honest about it.

“There will be no public voting and the judges will make sure the contestants are rewarded fairly. The most painful part of the journey is when contestants have to leave because of our judgments, this pains me a lot.”

Sush adds that she doesn’t have a problem with adult comedy. “If something tickles your funny bones, you are free to laugh at it. I like all comedies... unless they are meant to hurt someone. “We should not make deliberate fun of others and I advice the same to my kids. But I also teach them to fight for their rights,” she adds.

She says that her elder daughter Renee, who has just turned 16, loves to watch Varun Dhavan’s songs. “The kids have one hour of TV time at home and in that one hour they can watch whatever they want,” she says, adding with a smile, “But if I am in a bad mood, I am like a Hitler at home…but when in a good mood I do a lot of masti.”

About Renee’s Bollywood aspirations, Sush says, “The elder one has already started saying, ‘Mom I want to be an actress’. But I want her to first complete her studies. I remember when I entered the industry I would meet people who had completed their PhDs while I was just a 12th pass. It was like, ‘What else could I do?’ I do not want my daughters to have the same feeling.”
