2 Indians evacuated for divulging match information to their sponsors
Mumbai: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have caught two young Indians for releasing the match information to their sponsors during the recently concluded Sri Lanka-India Galle Test match, it is learnt.
According to the sources in SLC, the incident happened during the second and third day at the Galle International Stadium when they were taking the advantage of a few-second delay of the live TV telecast and were releasing the match-information to their sponsors in India over their mobiles.
"Both hail from a poor family from Mumbai and Delhi and their air tickets were purchased by sponsors. They were not required to buy match tickets as entry to stadium was free for the spectators," the source said.
"They were caught from the public stand and after thorough interrogation were evacuated from the Stadium," the source added.
"As per their passport records, this was their first trip to this country."
"The incident has not been made public because no players or support staff members from either team are involved. The officials will be more alert during the remaining matches on this tour," the source further added.
The Galle Test has been won by Sri Lanka. The second Test, which will be celebrated as Kumar Sangakkara's farewell Test will begin on August 20 at Colombo's P. Sara Oval Stadium.
The bookies in India and Pakistan hire young people and sponsor their trips abroad and send them at match-venues, get prior information on happenings at ground and place bets and earn money from gambling.
