‘Probe into murder a mockery: Pinarayi Vijayan
KOCHI: The government has reduced the probe into the killing of local Congress leader Andathode Chalilveetil Haneefa at Chavakkad in Thrissur district into a mockery, CPM leader Pinrayi Vijayan said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the house of Haneefa, the CPM politburo member said the people who had given the leadership for the murder are “walking freely”.
“The Congress leadership is protecting the killers,” he said. The probe has been turned into a mockery as the hands and legs of the police are tied down firmly, he said.
An impartial probe is the need of the hour, Pinarayi said, and added that competent officers should be entrusted for the purpose. The government is protecting the accused. The local people had captured the accused and also recovered the weapons, he added.
Haneefa, a local leader of the ‘A’ faction of the Congress, was hacked to death in front of his mother and family members by persons allegedly belonging to the ‘I’ faction because of group rivalry.
The police has arrested Shameer, the prime accused, and two others in the case so far. According to the police, six others including the second to fourth accused have absconded.
