Police to focus on overloaded vehicles in Telangana

Increased focus on these aspects has been given in order to increase road safety
Hyderabad: Apart from major traffic violations on the road like speeding and signal jumping, the traffic police has now started concentrating extra light projectors on vehicles and dangerously overloading. Increased focus on these aspects has been given in order to increase road safety.
While these might be seemingly minor violations but not sounding the horn when required, carrying more school children than specified in vehicles, violation of ban on right and left turns and vehicles using multi-tone horns are now being booked as these not only cause disturbance to other motorists but also increases the chances of accidents.
During a high level meeting for implementation of road safety measures, these seemingly minor violations were identified as the cause for 35 to 50 per cent of road accidents. Extra projectors on either side of the vehicle or mounted on top were identified as a major cause of head-on collisions during the night.
The extra glare impacts visibility as well as capability to judge the distance of the approaching vehicle, according to a document of the meeting.
According to data from the traffic police, in the last three months, up to 150 vehicles have been booked each month for not stopping on being asked by the police, 10 vehicles are being booked each month for driving a vehicle in an unsafe condition, 5 to 10 for making sudden turns.
Similarly 10 to 15 cases are being booked each month for violations like failure to give way and about 100 to 150 cases have been booked for not sounding the horn and using multi-tone horns.
