OROP issue: Ex-servicemen to start huger strike from August 24
Perception is also growing that at least some of them may undertake a 'fast unto death'
New Delhi: Disappointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that the government has accepted “in principle” their demand for one rank, one pension (OROP), a section of ex-servicemen intend to “intensify” their relay hunger strike by deciding to launch an indefinite hunger strike from August 24.
“A group of ex-servicemen will start an indefinite fast here from August 24,” Col. Anil Kaul (Retd), the media adviser to the United Front of Ex-Servicemen Movement said, as the agitation at Jantar Mantar here entered its 63rd day on Sunday.
A perception is also growing among many ex-servicemen that at least some of them should undertake a “fast unto death” to mount further pressure on the Modi government.
