4-year-old girl with Down's syndrome wins hearts in shoe brand's back-to-school ad
Four-year-old Cora Slocum looks confident and smiles brightly as she poses in front of the camera. She is the new chosen face for the shoe brand Livie & Luca. She also has happens to be born with a condition called Down's syndrome.
This is the result of the efforts of Changing the Face of Beauty – a charity which aims to bring about diversity in advertising by encouraging companies to have child models with disabilities as part of their brand promotions.
The company was started by Katie Driscoll, a photographer and mother to a daughter with Down’s syndrome. “Individuals with disabilities make up the largest minority in the world, yet they’re the least represented in our media,” the Metro quotes her saying.
Everyone knows that the fashion industry mostly caters to set stereotypical standards of beauty and so-called perfection. So, it is heat-warming to see that some brands have finally woken up and are trying to change things for the better.
