1,500 feet message of unity in Hubbali
Hubballi: A 1,500-foot-long Tricolour was put on display during the Independence Day celebrations here on Saturday, to drive home the message of unity and patriotic spirit among the people, especially youth.
It is considered the longest flag in the state after a 1,250-foot-long flag was unfurled in Holenarasipur of Hassan district last year. The Hubballi flag, which measures 10 feet in width, is all set to enter the Limca Book of Records. More than 3,000 students from around 140 colleges took part in the mega function.
A grand procession was taken out form Lamington Road and it passed through the main thoroughfares of the city. Vasavi International Youth Club, in association with NGO Gyana Ganga, prepared the flag in Roddam village of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
The procession received an overwhelming response from all businessmen, who gave a rousing welcome, and showered flowers on the flag. Two other flags, measuring 150x10 feet and 80x4 feet carrying the photographs of freedom fighters who laid down their lives, were also displayed.
Mr Anupkumar Gupta, Youth Deputy Governor, Vasavi Club International, said, “The feeling of patriotic spirit is fading among youngsters. It is essential to hold such events to remind them of the sacrifices made by our several freedom fighters. We organised the event to create awareness about the significance of unity and brotherhood among students.”
