Bengaluru: Woman’s throat slit, son-in-law suspect

Ravi, a vagabond and son-in-law of Rathnamma, used to quarrel with her frequently over trivial issues

Bengaluru: Three murder cases, two in west Bengaluru and one in East, were reported on Saturday. Rathnamma, 45, a garment factory worker, was found dead with her throat slit at her house on 5th Main road near the old police station in K.P. Agrahara on Saturday morning. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ravi, a vagabond and son-in-law of Rathnamma, used to quarrel with her frequently over trivial issues.

According to the police, Rathnamma was a native of Malavalli in T. Narasipura taluk. Her husband and daughter live there. Ravi lives in Bengaluru without taking care of his family. Ravi used to visit Rathnamma frequently and quarrel with her.

The police said Ravi’s cellphone is out of reach. A search is on for Ravi. K.P. Agarahara police have registered a case. A 25-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his friend over a trivial issue on Saturday morning near Popular Junction in Kalasipalaya police limits.

The deceased, Manikantappa alias Mani, was a resident of Mysuru Road and native of Ananthpur. The accused, Ayappa, is a resident of City Market. The duo became friends in 2008 after they were arrested on the charge of planning to commit a dacoity. After they were released on bail, they worked as daily wagers in City Market.

The duo met at a bar on Friday night. After having drinks, they started quarrelling over some petty issue. They hit each other with rocks and Mani collapsed on the road outside the bar after suffering serious injuries. Seeing Mani lying in a pool of blood, Ayappa tried to flee. However, a few yards away from the spot of murder, night beat policemen stopped Ayappa and questioned him about his injuries. Ayappa reportedly told them that some miscreants had assaulted him.

The policemen rushed him to a nearby hospital. Ayappa’s luck ran out when the policemen found Mani lying in a pool of blood on the road. Mani told the policemen that he was assaulted by Ayappa before he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, the police said. Kalasipalaya police arrested Ayappa who reportedly confessed to the crime.

A 32-year-old tea vendor, who was stabbed by three miscreants on Shampura Main Road near Patellappa playground in D.J. Halli police limits on Friday evening, died at Bowring Hospital.

According to the police, the victim, Wajid, a resident of Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar, had come to Shampura in his friend Muqbal’s car on Friday evening. Muqbal was driving when Wajid told him to stop the car as he had to attend nature’s call. Wajid, who went to an isolated spot near Patellappa playground, was stabbed by three miscreants, the police said. D.J. Halli police have registered a case of murder. Further investigations are on.
