The mass King is back: Ravi Teja
Come August 21, and ‘Mass Maharaja’ Ravi Teja will be back in the theatres with Kick 2 — the sequel to the 2009 action blockbuster which Salman Khan made in Hindi.
While Salman’s plans of a Kick sequel remain nebulous, Ravi has gone ahead and completed Kick 2 which he says is “much bigger in every way” than the original.
Reasons Ravi, “It has to be bigger, otherwise it doesn’t make sense to do a sequel.” Any plans of acting in Bollywood, considering Telugu films are being re-made in Bollywood too? Ravi Teja is very clear, “Let’s be honest and practical. No South Indian hero has ever made it big in Bollywood. So why should I even try when I’m doing so well for myself down South?” he adds.
But he adds, “I’m open to doing multi-starrers. I don’t mind sharing screen space with another top star in Bollywood because then the audiences will come to the theatres and they’ll get to see what I’m worth too.”
In Telugu cinema it’s action and more action for Ravi. “That’s what my audience wants. Action and comedy. My next film Bengal Tiger, which I started shooting as soon as I completed Kick 2, is also an out-and-out action film. I am to Telugu cinema what Akshay Kumar is to Bollywood,” he says.
In Kick 2 Ravi plays the son of the character he played in Kick. “Yes, I play the son now. He is a man on a mission. We’ve given my character the kind of stunts that have not been seen before in Telugu cinema.”
