Won’t let controversies stall development: CM Oommen Chandy
KOCHI: Soon, the people in all The government will go ahead with the Vizhinjam International Port project at any cost, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said in Kochi on Friday.
Speaking after presenting KMA-NASSCOM IT Leadership Award to P. H. Kurian principal secretary, Industries and IT, Mr Chandy said that the government would not be “bogged down by the creation of controversies while executing development projects”.
The state has lost precious years due to the penchant for the creation of controversies, he pointed out. The Vizhinjam project, conceived 25 years ago, should have been realised by now, he said. In any other state, the project would have been up and running now, he added.
The state, having made an exceptional achievement in the field of education and health care, however, has a dismal record in terms of economic development, Mr Chandy said.
Delivering the keynote address in the 16th national conference of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Mr Chandy said the role of company secretary is quite important for the growth of industry and labour market in Kerala.
The new generation entrepreneurs have technical knowledge, but most of them are not familiar with the changes in the company laws and regulations, he said.
“The company secretaries have a significant role in guiding entrepreneurs in the era of globalisation when rules and regulations are changed constantly,” he added.
