Security beefed up for Onam
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 100 additional surveillance cameras will be installed across the city, and 800 cops deployed to ensure security during Onam celebrations. A detailed security plan for Onam will be finalised next week.
City police commissioner H Venkatesh said that foolproof security would be given so that public could enjoy Onam without fear.
“Installing more CCTV cameras would deter crimes. A special control room will be set up at Kanakakunnu palace where police will monitor footage. Swift action would be taken against any unlawful activity,” he said.
As Onam nears, there will be enhanced vigil at all entry points to the city. Tamil Nadu police’s held would be sought to track habitual offenders from those regions entering the city to ‘cash in’ on the onam rush.
The city police commissioner also advised city residents who went on long journeys to inform nearby police stations.“We will enhance patrolling in all residential areas,” said Mr. Venkatesh.
