Pakistan rakes up Kashmir-issue
Says will not abandon Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle
New Delhi/Islamabad: In an attempt to provoke India ahead of the NSA-level talks, Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue and the Samjhauta Express blasts, with Islamabad declaring it would not “abandon” the Kashmiris’ “legitimate struggle for freedom” even as it summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner and lodged a protest over the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) decision not to oppose the bail granted to Swami Aseemanand, an accused in the 2007 Samjhauta blasts in which 42 Pakistanis were among 68 killed.
Ever since a Pakistani terrorist was caught alive after the Udhampur terror attack recently, Pakistan has been seeking to go on the offensive in order to counter its own inaction in the 26/11 attacks case by raking up the Samjhauta case.
In his address during an event at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Friday to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day, Pakistan’s High Commi-ssioner to India Abdul Basit said, “Aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir could neither be ignored nor put on the back-burner. No matter how much more time their legitimate struggle takes, Pakistan will never abandon Kashmiris and their cause.”
In Islamabad, Pakistan summoned the Indian deputy High Commissioner on Friday and lodged a protest over the NIA’s decision not to oppose Swami Aseemanand’s bail. Pakistan also raised doubts over the Indian legal process.
The Pakistan foreign office said Indian deputy high commissioner J.P. Singh met the director-general (SA & Saarc), who lodged a protest against the decision of the NIA to not oppose Aseemanand’s bail.
The Pakistan FO said, “The government of Pakistan has serious reservations on the efficiency ... in processing and disposal of cases regarding terrorism, especially those involving deaths of Pakistani citizens.”
