On Independence-Day, Chandrababu Naidu to launch Pattiseema Lift Scheme
Naidu is going to dedicate the Pattiseema Lift Scheme to the nation
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu is going to dedicate the Pattiseema Lift Scheme to the nation on Independence Day. It diverts Godavari water to Krishna Basin, thus making into reality the interlinking of two major rivers through canals after Telugu Ganga scheme in 1987 that connected Krishna with Penna.
However, there will be no formal operationalising the pumps and motors to affect lifting of waters from Pattiseema which is situated on the banks of Godavari into Polavaram Right main canal as it will take another 20 days due to non-erection of pumps and motors at the site for which works are going on at a brisk pace.
There are heavy rains coupled with flood in the river to a tune of two lakh cusecs making the concrete works difficult to dry where on the top of the platforms high speed pumps will be installed. In fact Megha Engineering Ltd, the contractors of the Pattiseema, promised to provide partial pumping by September 30 and the completion of the entire scheme by March 2016 as per schedule.
However, the Chief Minister has advanced the partial pumping to Aug. 15 and was very particular to dedicate the scheme to the nation on that day. But it appears it will drag to September. The diversion of 8,500 cusecs of Godavari waters to Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada, covering a distance of 170 km through the Right Main Canal of Polavaram which has a designed flowing capacity of 17,000 cusecs, will be useful for Krishna Delta this season as rains failed to fill the reservoirs built across Krishna.
However, there will be no simultaneous release of Krishna waters from Srisailam to Rayalaseema projects this season, as promised by the CM, owing to poor or nil inflows in Srisailam Dam.
