A ten acre plot of land has been handed over to IIMC for the construction

KOTTAYAM: The construction work of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) building will start at the campus of the Rajiv Gan-dhi Institute of Techno-logy (RIT) at Pampady within the next two months.

A ten acre plot of land has been handed over to IIMC for the construction. “The central public works department (CPWD) has been entrusted with the construction of the building,” said Kottayam MP Jose K. Mani. Rs 20 crore has been granted by the government for the initial phase.

IIMC is currently functioning in a temporary building at the MG University campus at Athiram-puzha near Kottayam. K. Ramakrishnan, special officer of IIMC told DC that the campus would be shifted to the new building after was ready.

The project which was sanctioned more than four years back has been delayed due to various reasons including granting the land for the construction of the building.

Though, at first, a four acre plot of land was allotted at Vadavathoor, IIMC authorities demanded 10 acres and then it was shifted to the RIT campus at Pampady.
