Bangalore Club members can sip Indian-Made Foreign Liquor for a week
Bengaluru: After beer made a come-back late last month, it’s time for Bangalore Club members to sip on Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at least for a week pending further court orders. The excise department has issued a brief period of six days’ licence to serve IMFL at the club premises until August 18.
“The order of the court was that the petitioner can apply for a special licence and the department shall consider as per provisions in the law, the club applied it and we got it,” K.D. Murthy, Secretary, Bangalore Club told Deccan Chronicle.
“We were under the impression that we can serve liquor here at the club at least till the court gives the verdict on the writ as we thought the interim order will still stand until that time, but the excise department claimed that as there were hearings coming up and there are technicalities involved and gave us the licence for only 6 days. We have to re-apply the extension of the special licence on August 17, Murthy said.
The secretary intimated the club members that “limited range of Indian made foreign liquor and imported brands will be served in the club from 7 pm onwards from Friday evening. The bar services would be available from 11 am to 11.30 pm on all days till Tuesday, (August 18) and the last order will be at 11 pm. A limited range of IMFL has been made available at the club, he added.
