Tinder swipes left on criticism
Tinder went on a rant on its official twitter account defending the app’s experience
No one likes to handle rejection. Sometimes, it’s just hard to come to terms with it. For Tinder users, however, rejection is a part of the dating app’s game. But Tinder didn’t take it in its stride when a magazine cited its app as a reflection of the hook-up culture that was becoming a part of the new generation’s lifestyle. Tinder went on a twitter rant that ran up to 31 tweets as it defended itself and its users’ choices.
“The Tinder Generation is real. Our users are creating it. But it’s not at all what you portray it to be. Tinder creates experiences. We create connections that otherwise never would have been made. Eight billion of them to date, in fact,” the Tinder’s official Twitter account retaliated.
Tinder acknowledged the hook-up culture but it went on to claim it only provided a platform for something that had already existed, “Users are on Tinder to meet people for all kinds of reasons.
Sure, some of them — men and women — want to hook up. Just like in real life. And in the many years that existed before Tinder,” Tinder added. Tinder was also criticised with claims backed by stats that over 30 per cent who were on Tinder were married, which the dating app refuted claiming the actual data reflects only 1.7 per cent were married.
Tinder criticised the magazine claiming it was unfairly portrayed and that it had chosen not to talk about the positive long-term relationships and experiences that are part of the dating app.
A tinder spokesman later admitted there was an overreaction but still stood by what it said: “We were saddened to see that the article didn’t touch upon the positive experiences that the majority of our users encounter daily.
“Our intention was to highlight the many statistics and amazing stories that are sometimes left unpublished, and, in doing so, we overreacted,” the company said.
