Rs 1,000 crore work at airport terminals

Chennai: In view of the Global Investors Meet to be held in Chennai on September 9 and 10 and the issue of privatisation of Chennai airport being settled, the chairman of Airports Authority Of India (AAI), R.K. Srivastava took stock of the facilities at the city airport and also reviewed arrangements for the event.
After deliberations by AAI officials on several pending infrastructural projects, re-carpeting of the runway at a cost of Rs 41 crore got the green signal.
Reviewing the state of several pending works, like expansion of the domestic terminal and the international terminal and developing a multi-level car parking among others, the chairman made a scope of work and also gave an estimate of Rs 1,000 crore.
Srivastava told newspersons “I have seen and reviewed the area of the Chennai airport. Now we can define the scope of works that are to be undertaken. Right now we are in the stage of discussion on what is to be the scope of work and various methods in which it can be undertaken.”
He said , “We are in the process of appointing a project management consultant (PMC) & only then will we decide on the timeline to complete the project.” Various structural defects that had been encountered would be addressed.
Meanwhile, Sudhir Raheja, Member (Planning) &Board Member Of Airports Authority Of India (AAI) said the AAI will certainly start work on connecting the old and new terminal buildings.
