Officials in 2014 firing case likely to be held

Police during investigation had found out that there were criminal negligence from the part of the NCC officials

KOZHIKODE: The Kuthuparamba police have now approached the Judicial Magistrate Court seeking to direct the NCC authorities to hand over the essential documents to the police investigation team regarding a probe in to the death of an NCC cadet in firing at Niramalagiri College in Kuthuparamba in November 2014.

Kuthuparamba police, that has been investigating the case, told Deccan Chronicle that they have finalized a list of five accused in the case, including NCC camp commandant Bihari Lal Bose, and are planning to arrest them.

Police during investigation had found out that there were criminal negligence from the part of the NCC officials who asked M Anas (18) to set the target right, when other cadres were aiming at the firing range.

“The accident happened about an year ago and we have been asking the NCC higher-ups to hand over the documents pertaining to the case to the police investigation team but they refused. NCC officials said that they are investigating the case under Indian Army Act and are unable to hand over the documents. Now we have approached the court to get a direction in this regard,” Saju Paul, DySP Thalassery told Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, the parents of M Anas, who died in the firing have now approached Kannur Range DIG Dinendra Kashyap, against the delay in arresting the accused and rendering justice to them. “I have forwarded the complaint to the Kannur SP and has asked him to file a status report. As far as I know, NCC had not handed over various documents pertaining to the case to the investigation team,” Dinendra Kashyap said.
