MHRD shows Pondicherry University vice chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy the door

The vice chancellor was forced to finally leave the office at around 9.30 in the night
Chennai: The MHRD ordered Pondicherry University vice chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy to go on “indefinite leave” on Thursday after three weeks of continuous protests by students and faculty of the university. Even though MHRD’s statement was issued around 11 in the morning, the vice chancellor refused to comply. After nearly 1,000 students surrounded the office, refusing to budge until she left, the vice chancellor was forced to finally leave the office at around 9.30 in the night.
After the MHRD sent its statement containing the decision about the VC’s “indefinite leave”, the VC issued a letter announcing that she would go on leave from August 14 to 21 and would appoint the present registrar Paneerselvam, as the VC in charge and that he would also hoist the flag on Independence Day.
However, the MHRD rejected this letter and tension ensued outside her office with students demanding a fresh letter stating she would go on a “long leave”. The IG of police was also present at the protest, advising the VC to leave since government order has been issued to her and it had therefore become a law and order situation. Sreelatha, a student who has remained at the forefront of the protest said, “This shows that truth always triumphs.”
