GHMC asked to study idol immersion systems from Bengaluru civic body

The bench asked the GHMC to depute a team of officials to study the system

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the GHMC to depute a team of engineers to study the system adopted by the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation for immersing idols during Ganesh festival and submit a report within a week.

A two-member bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a contempt case moved by M. Venu Madhava, an advocate in Hyderabad.

Justice Bhosale said that the civic authorities at Bengaluru had adopted a system to immerse idols by segregating the lake and they also made an arrangement so that immersion would not cause pollution to the other part of the lake and also to clean and remove idols soon after the immersion day.

The bench asked the GHMC to depute a team of officials to study the system and place a report before the court along with photographs and other related material.

The petitioner submitted that earlier the government had submitted that immersions would henceforth be allowed in all 23 lakes, which are meant for immersions in and around Hyderabad city, including the Hussainsagar Lake.
