Company secretaries meet sees big opportunities

Ashish Kumar said CS professionals must make themselves experts in various new requirements of the new company law

Kochi: Speakers at the two-day national conference of practising company secretaries which began in Kochi on Thursday said the corporate world is reinventing itself offering a lot of opportunities and opening new avenues for company secretaries.

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) president Atul H Mehta said that the Companies Act, 2013, opened doors for company secretaries in number of areas such as insolvency, winding up, valuation and corporate restructuring in addition to areas such as secretarial audit.

He said the introduction of secretarial standards with respect to general and board meetings specified by the ICSI will boost the confidence of investors.

BSE Ltd chief executive officer Ashish Kumar Chauhan, who delivered the key note address, said CS professionals must make themselves experts in various new requirements of the new company law. ICSI vice-president Mamta Binani, council member Ashish Garg also spoke.
