Jebin mother is a college professor at Madurai while his father heads the physics department at his school
Chennai: Going by genetic lineage, had 19-year-old Jebin Samuel decided to take up physics and achieve something, it would have been a poster moment for his physics teaching parents and probably a banter over whose gene is dominant.
His mother is a college professor at Madurai while his father heads the physics department at his school, C.S.I Higher secondary school in Nagercoil.
However, the final year English literature student at Madras Christian College has given enough reasons for his parents to be proud, as the teenager would be representing the country in the International Quiz on Korea 2015 competition to be held in South Korea in September.
“My parents, they are more excited than I am,” said Jebin who thanks his cousin for inducing in him an interest in Korea. Watching the Korean drama, ‘The secret garden’ on his cousin’s suggestion made him curious about the East Asian country and he enrolled for a beginner level Korean language course at his college last year.
“While I was through my course, my professor suggested me I take up this quiz and I sailed through the Chennai rounds comfortably,” Jebin said.
For the final round in Delhi, he prepared from an assortment of 20 books provided by his department and the organizers. Jebin who battled his final round with his
counterpart from Delhi at the national level quiz competition held at Delhi University on Friday (August 7) was declared the winner and would be representing the country.
