Elite force for Chandrababu Naidu’s camp in Vijayawada
A unit of the anti-terror force, Octopus, will be permanently set up in Krishna district
Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s riverside stay and the official machinery shifting to the capital area have changed the security scenario in Vijayawada with elite commandos stationed round the clock. A unit of the anti-terror force, Octopus, will be permanently set up in Krishna district like in Tirupati.
AP DGP Mr J.V. Ramudu said, “We have identified land in Krishna district for Octopus. We will be setting up a permanent base for the force.” Mr Naidu will be staying in the Lingamaneni guesthouse of the Krishna River on the Guntur side. As the area is near several islands with reserve forest and hilly areas near the capital, it was decided to step up vigil.
A senior police official said, “The elite anti-Naxal force Greyhounds will comb continuously in the islands, hilly areas and river-side villages in view of AP CM Naidu staying in the Lingamaneni guesthouse. Special police teams will be deployed on boats for continuous vigil as the guesthouse is situated just adjacent to the river.”
“We will have permanent pickets of police in the islands near by. All entry and exit points of the roads leading to the CM’s residence on the riverside will be controlled.” Mr Naidu already has National Security Guards’ cover and is protected by AP Intelligence Security Wing officials as an outer cover as he faces threat from Left wing extremists. Naxals had made a failed attempt on Naidu in April in 2003.
AP to hire private buildings for government officials:
Private buildings will be taken on rent in Amaravati, Vijayawada, Guntur and surroundings to provide accommodation to AIS officers. The ceiling for rent is Rs 40,000 a month.
“Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had decided to work for three to four days from Andhra Pradesh ,mainly Vijayawada, and has asked top officials to work with him from Vijayawada.
These orders would allow the departments to take on lease private buildings,” a senior officer in the general administration told this correspondent. According to the order, AIS officers can secure private accommodation on their own and the government will enter into an agreement with the house owner.
