Bengaluru: African students, villagers clash after car rams into bike

Some African students crashed their car into a bike, which was being ridden by a couple

Bengaluru: The animosity between African students and local residents came out in the open on Wednesday, when the students and residents of Mylanahalli in northeast Bengaluru fought with each other after some students crashed their car into a bike, which was being ridden by a couple from the village, around 11.30 am.

The students, who study at Koshy's Group of Institutions in Kadusonnapana Halli on Hennur-Bagalur Road in Kannur, were driving a Honda City car when they crashed into the motorbike being ridden by the couple, Murali and his wife Rajani, near BM School on Kannur Road. The couple fell on the road and sustained minor injuries. The local residents, who alleged that the car was being driven rashly, confronted the students.

The students called some of their friends to the spot and the two groups started fighting with each other. By the time the police reached the spot, both the groups were involved in fisticuffs. In the melee, three students who were driving the car abandoned their vehicle and fled the spot. The couple was treated at a local hospital.

A senior police officer said, “We have seized the car, bearing the registration number KA-03-MC-3568. We are trying to identify the car owner. When we went to enquire about these three students at Koshy’s College, the management refused to give us any information, saying the incident occurred outside the college premises and they had got nothing to do with it.” The Chikkajala traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.
