Chennai: Wife stabs hubby’s mistress, ends life
Woman hangs herself in tea shop
Chennai: A 38-year-old woman killed herself by hanging from the roof of a roadside teashop in Kancheepuram fearing police action for attacking her husband’s girlfriend with a knife in the latter’s house at Orikkai.
The deceased Panchali was found dead in the shop located on Kancheepuram—Uthiramerur State highway. Panchali is a resident of Pakkupet near Kancheepuram.
Police said Panchali believed that her husband Kathirvel, an Electricity Board employee, had arranged a rented house for his mistress Sasikala in Orikkai.
Panchali went to Sasikala’s house and confronted her on Tuesday night but later gave the impression of pacifying her and asked Sasikala to provide her a place to sleep, as it was late and she cannot return home alone.
Sasikala, who believed that, arranged a bed for Panchali. Police said Panchali later turned furious in the night and stabbed Sasikala with a kitchen knife. Sasikala suffered injuries on neck and chest. The incident happened around 1am Wednesday.
When Sasikala collapsed, Panchali believed that she was dead and returned home. On her way Panchali chose a roadside teashop to end her life. She hanged herself there using her saree.
The incident came to light only when the shopkeeper came to open the tea stall at 5 am. The Kancheepuram taluk police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted her to the government hospital in Kancheepuram for post- mortem.
Injured Sasikala has been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital in Chennai. She is said to be out of danger. The police have registered an attempt to murder case against Panchali and registered another case under the Cr.P.C. section 174 (unnatural death) in connection with Panchali’s suicide. Police said that they would close the attempt to murder case, as the suspect is dead.
