Bengaluru: Poachers arrested, tusks seized

They questioned the duo and searched them to find tusks weighing 10 kg

BENGALURU: The Varthur police have arrested two people, who were trying to sell elephant tusks, near Sarjapura Road recently.

The arrested – Prashanth (22) and Muninanjappa (28) – are from Kanakapura. After a tipoff, the police found the duo moving around suspiciously in Sarjapura. They questioned the duo and searched them to find tusks weighing 10 kg.

During the interrogation, the duo said that they had killed an elephant in Jawalgere forest range in Tamil Nadu and taken the tusks. They had hidden the tusks in their house for a few days before trying to find a potential buyer.

A senior police officer said, “We suspect that Prashanth is part of the dreaded Anchetty gang who are active in the border area and are notorious for poaching.” Varthur police have registered a case and are investigating.
