There are various versions of national anthems that we have heard, but this version that has surfaced the Internet recently is incredibly powerful. Even as India celebrates its 69th Independence Day on 15th August, for some Indians freedom still comes with conditions attached.
While the world celebrated Valentine’s Day last year, the Supreme Court of India recognised transgender people as the third gender and ordered the government to provide them quotas in jobs and education.
This video has a group of transgenders singing the National Anthem and subtly putting across the message that they can be whoever they want to be. The video tells us in the most beautiful way, that if there is such a thing as freedom, it is freedom to pursue various professions.
