More than a third of British workers find their jobs ‘meaningless’, new survey says

City slickers reportedly felt less job satisfaction than others

Most people complain that they are overworked and paid less than they deserve. But can workers really hate their jobs to the extent that they find the whole exercise ‘meaningless’? According to a recent study by YouGov, this holds true for a significant number of British workers.

The study found that 37 percent of British workers said that they thought that their job makes no meaningful contribution to the world but at the same time very few of them admitted they were making efforts to search for more meaningful employment.

The study also found that men are more like to admit that they find their job meaningless than women. Another surprising finding was that Londoners experienced lesser professional fulfilment than their counterparts in the Midlands and Wales.

Author David Graeber states that many workers believed that with the world becoming increasingly technological, machines would have taken up the bulk of their work, which would have allowed them to enjoy lesser work hours, as reported by the Metro. Unfortunately this has not worked for most people.
