Traffic management centre aids NATPAC with Kozhikode mobility plan
KOZHIKODE: Traffic transit management center (TTMC) in Bengaluru has played a major role in drafting and conceptualising the traffic transit management centre at Kozhikode for the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), to ensure a systematically planned urban transport system for the city. It was during the final meeting of NATPAC to discuss the draft of Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), the TTMC project for Kozhikode was discussed.
NATPAC’s recommendation was for a multi-modal transport hub between the Malapparamba and Thondayad junctions and mobility hubs have also been planned for Elathur, Medical College, Pantheeramkavu and Meenchanda.
TTMC has designed the master plan as a boon to the fast growing city with facilities that could accommodate parking space for 3,000 cars, 2,000 motorcycles, 200 buses and 200 contract carriages at a stretch.
“TTMCs are not meant only for intra city buses but also for intercity bus services coming from different cities to Kozhikode”, NATPAC director B.G. Sreedevi said.
Over Rs 4000 crore has been estimated for the smooth conduct of the project charted under long term proposals for the city.
“Our goal for the CMP is to develop a public transit system in conformity with the land use that is accessible, economical, efficient and effective for urban movement and to ensure that the urban road structure is organised and suited to land use. We also will ensure that the goods movement in the region is organised and does not interfere with the movement of people, she further pointed out.
TTMC Bengaluru has also conceptualised mass transit corridors from Karanthur to Ramanattukara via Mavoor Road, Ramanattukara to Malaparamb, Wayanad Road and Kannur Road.
TTMC’s plan for Road Network Improvements mainly from Ring Road from Beypore to Pooladikunnu Junction Via Pantheeramkavu and Kunnamangalam, covering 40 km, is the other major development of the master plan.
