Oxford Press software to aid school children
Oxford University Press on Tuesday announced its venture into the digital education space
Hyderabad: Oxford University Press on Tuesday announced its venture into the digital education space by launching a web-based student education material. Speaking to the reporters here in Hyderabad, Oxford University Press India managing director Ranjan Kaul said, "The product, ‘Oxford Achiever’ launched on Tuesday will be available to schools of Hyderabad and other cities where we had carried out pilot projects.”
Oxford Achiever is a web-based learning platform for schoolchildren. Currently, it will be available only in English, though they will be launching a version in Mathematics too. The software will also be available in regional languages soon.
A pilot project was carried out in six cities including New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata with eight schools on board before its launch. While stressing on the need for improving English language skills, Mr Kaul said, “Engineers today fare badly in communication skills and it is a prime reason why they fall back in competition.
With the adult English Learning Technique (ELT) programme, we aim to focus on these areas.” The product covers six core areas of English namely listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammer and evaluates the performance of the child. The over 500-year-old press also plans to come out with an app version of its popular Atlas and a bi-lingual dictionary.
