Bengaluru: All the schools in the state may soon be manned by student police cadets, if the suggestion put forth by the KCPCR is implemented.
The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KCPCR) chairwoman Mrs. Kripa Alva has seriously taken up this proposal with the state police department, following the shocking recent sexual assault on a three-year-old in a private school in a city.
Speaking to this newspaper, Mrs. Alva espressed the view that in other states, like the state of Kerala for instance, sexual assaults on girl children are few and far between. “After making inquiries I discovered that in these states, the presence of school-level student police cadets ensures student safety on the school campus. So, naturally, after seeing this, now we want a similar system in our schools too,” she pointed out.
“In fact,” she added, “The Police have already launched a student police cadet scheme in Bengaluru city. I have requested the police department to expand this scheme across the state. They have assured me of all support for this project and shown interest in it, too. Soon we will spread this scheme to schools across the state," she explained.
She said, “The Student Police Cadet scheme has a lot of advantages. For instance, it could inspire students to serve the nation by joining the army. Since students will be in touch with the designated police officials, it will ensure their safety too.”
