K Chandrasekhar Rao vows to rekindle villages
KCR asserted the proposed ‘Grama Jyothi plan your village’ programme will rekindle light in the life of villagers
Hyderabad: Expressing anguish over neglect of villages despite achieving independence seven decades ago, Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, asserted the proposed ‘Grama Jyothi plan your village’ programme will rekindle light in the life of villagers. “From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the status of villages is bad. Villages continue to rot with all kinds of problems and people continue to live in haphazard conditions. With cooperation of every villager, we can bring a change. If a village develops, state will develop,” the CM said.
Stating that it is not an easy task, he asked officials and public representatives to work with dedication and overcome obstacles including political while pursuing the goal of improving villages.
“The other day I visited a village in Karimnagar district. It was a pathetic sight. There were heaps of garbage, bad roads, open nalas, over flowing drains, bent electricity poles. You get de-motivated. I decided to adopt the village and change it for good. But it is everyone’s job. Don’t wait for some official or CM to come and do it,” he said.
The CM held an interactive programme to explain the salient features of the Grama Jyothi programme to be launched from August 17 to ministers, bureaucrats, collectors, revenue, police officials and other officials from all government departments at Prof Jayashankar Agricultural University here. Explaining the salient features of Grama Jyothi programme, he said under the programme every village grama Sabha comprising sarpanch, ward members, MPTC, MPP, ZPTC etc along with officials would prepare a 4-year plan for the village, prioritising its needs and make best use of funds provided by the government from various sources.
“The government plans to spend Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 crore for Grama Jyothi. The grama Sabha will chalk out a 4-year plan and prioritise needs like every village should have drinking water to every home, good roads, streetlights, a dumpyard, graveyard, waste disposal system, school building, hospital etc. The government plans to provide one waste disposal tricycle for a population of 750. We have ordered 25,000 tricycles,” he said.
He added, “Ninety seven percent of people are good while only three percent are bad in society. If you have determination and motivation, we can bring about a radical change and improve the quality of life and our surroundings.” Stating nothing is impossible, he cited the carving of Telangana state after a protracted struggle since 2001 and the humiliation he faced all through the agitation till he achieved it.
“Telangana is a standing example. If there is determination, commitment we can achieve anything. We have three model villages in Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal where villagers are doing wonders. When they can do it, why can’t others, he added. He advised MLAs to adopt one village in every mandal and focus on its development.
