J&K bravehearts who captured Pak militant alive recommended for Shaurya Chakra
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police has recommended the names of two residents who captured fleeing Pakistani militant Mohammad Naved Yakub alive following August 5 deadly attack on a Border Security Force convoy at Samruli along the Srinagar-Jammu highway for the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ gallantry medal.
Director General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar has also issued appointment orders to Vikramjeet Singh and Rakesh Kumar Sharma who were taken hostage by Naved while looking for an escape route but the duo while showing exemplary courage and presence of mind overpowered him and then with the help of other villagers including members of a village defence committee handed him over to the police.
A police spokesperson here said that Kumar issued appointment order in favour of Sharma son of Kali Dass and a resident of Pakhlal at present Nurso Chidri tehsil of Udhampur district on operational grounds as constable in J&K police.
The police headquarters in Srinagar also recommended to the government for according relaxation in qualification bar in favour of Singh son of Madan Lal of Nanak Nagar, Jammu on operational grounds for appointment as follower in the department.
The police also recommended their names to the government for the Shaurya Chakra gallantry medal in view of their “conspicuous gallant act” and suggested it may be announced on the eve of Independence Day. Earlier the State government had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 besides IAY house to each.
