FIR: Chavakkad murder politically motivated

Although mother of Haneefa and other relatives tried to protect him, they were chased away by the assailants

THRISSUR: Political vendetta arising out of group rivalry within the Congress led to the killing of party worker Andathode Chalilveetil Haneefa, according to the first information report (FIR) of the local police.

Source said the FIR had stated that the six men identified as the suspects and five others yet to be identified reached the house of Haneefa around 9.30 pm on Friday and “murderously attacked” him as a fall-out of the enmity from political differences.

The FIR has stated that Shafi, Ansar, Sachin, Afsal and Fazalu, identified as the accused two to six, held back Haneefa’s hands from both sides while the first accused, Shameer, stabbed him twice in his chest.

Although mother of Haneefa and other relatives tried to protect him, they were chased away by the assailants.

The police had registered cases against the accused under relevant sections for illegal gathering, conspiracy and murder.

The first six accused men attacked two friends of Haneefa before attacking him, says the FIR based on the statements made by witnesses.

The assailants escaped in a car and two wheelers after the attack. The FIR registered by the A.V. Radhakrishnan of the Chavakkad police station has come as a setback for those trying to deny political motive behind the killing.

A deliberate attempt was being made to link it to Haneefa’s fight against drug peddlers in the area.
