BJP favours alliance with AIADMK, says EVKS Elangovan
“Congress always for (forming) Kamaraj rule. In the event of a Congressman not being able to become chief minister, we will go for coalition,”
Chennai: Unfazed by the backlash he’s received after making caustic remarks about the Modi- Jayalalithaa meeting here recently, state Congress president E.V.KS. Elangovan on Tuesday said the alliance talks dominated the agenda of the recent meeting at Poes Garden.
“The BJP favours alliance with the AIADMK,” a sharp-tongued Elangovan said, even suggesting that seat numbers were also discussed during the meeting. Opposition bonhomie only for prohibition.
Responding to another query on the existing unanimity between opposition parties, the state Congress chief hastened to add that the bonhomie between DMK, DMDK and Congress on the issue of prohibition should not be viewed as an indicator of future electoral alliance. “We are always for (forming) Kamaraj rule. In the event of a Congressman not being able to become chief minister, we will go for coalition,” Elangovan reiterated.
Rahul condoles Sasiperumal’s death: Earlier, Elangovan read out a message sent by his party vice president Rahul Gandhi, condoling the death of anti-liquor crusader Sasiperumal.
He also announced Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to the Gandhian’s family. “I was deeply saddened by the unexpected and unfortunate death of Sasi Perumal while protesting against liquor shops in the state. Sasi Perumal dedicated his entire life to crusading against the ills of liquor,” the letter addressed to Sasiperumal’s son Vivek read.
