Need more dialogue writers in Tamil cinema: KSS director RS Prasanna

Prasanna says that though he loves to write dialogues, he would always be a full-time director. “I accept offers only based on the comfort level I share with people. I don’t see myself as a big dialogue writer, but I feel that directing gives me complete freedom to execute my thoughts,” he says and adds, Tamil cinema should have separate dialogue writers like Bollywood and Mollywood.

“Independent dialogue writers like Crazy Mohan and Sujatha were in demand because they can understand the nuances of writing dialogues for a commercially viable plot. But these days, most directors themselves write scripts.”

A gold medallist from the LV Prasad Film and TV Academy, Prasanna worked on many short films before moving to Mumbai to work. The young director believes that creativity and ‘an out-of-the-box approach’ are essential to sustain oneself in films.

“A good story is the strength of any film. In that way I am happy that KSS has gone to Bollywood. A good film is one that connects with the audience. I knew the film had the universal appeal and the script gave me the confidence that it would work in Hindi too,” smiles Prasanna, still being tight-lipped about the cast of the film’s Hindi version.

The director doesn’t want to restrict himself to feature films. “I have no qualms doing ad films, jingles and even short films when I am not occupied with big screens,” he signs off.
