Hyderabad’s chess whiz Kushagra Mohan wins Seoul silver
Hyderabad: Hyderabad lad Kushagra Mohan impressed with a silver medal at the World Youth Mind Games Fair which was held in Seoul, South Korea.
Mohan, a class VI student of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, secured a silver medal in the under-12 rapid chess event.
Meanwhile, Mohan finished fourth in the under-12 open category at the Asian Youth Chess Championships, also held in Seoul, thereby bringing home a consolation prize.
It was a commendable feat given that over 330 players from 16 countries vied with each other for top honours at the event.
Mohan’s career graph has been on the rise over the last four years. He first made a mark when he with an under-7 bronze medal at the National Chess Championships in 2011. Since then, he won an under-9 Nationals silver (2012) and followed it up with an Asian Schools bronze in under-10 the same year.
He won a bronze medal in under-10 at the Asian Youth Championships in 2013 before improving to a silver in the next edition, held last year at Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
He also improved steadily at the World Championships. He finished 12th in 2012, 10th in 2013 and eighth last year, all in the under-10 category.
