P C George urges speaker to nix removal plea
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (M) MLA P. C. George has urged Speaker N. Sakthan to reject government chief whip Thomas Unniyadan’s letter asking for his disqualification from the Assembly membership.
Interestingly, instead of replying to allegations raised against George before the Speaker, he has tried to establish that his disqualification would be null and void.
George said, in a letter addressed to Governor P. Sathasivam, that the KC(M)’s demand to disqualify him is against the Constitution and also Assembly rules.
Later, he told reporters that Speaker Sakthan will reject the KC(M)’s request. In a threatening note, George said if it happens otherwise, he will show then and doesn’t mind approaching the High Court. He said the decision to move the court will be taken later after holding talks with legal experts.
KC(M) leaders had alleged that by deciding to field Anti-Corruption Democratic Front (ACDF) candidate K. Das in the Aruvikkara Assembly byelection, George had committed a grave anti-party act which could attract the provisions of the anti-defection law.
In fact, George himself had given a letter to the Speaker citing that he would take an independent stand in the Assembly, which reveals his anti-party stand. Unniyadan, in his letter to the Speaker, also cited this.
