Kochi Smartcity: Kerala, Dubai to review progress
Kochi: The governments of Kerala and Dubai will conduct a joint review and inspection of the progress the SmartCity, Kochi, project has made till now on September 5.
The director board f the company, which is also slated for the day, will decide on the date of the launch of the first phase of the ambitious project, chief secretary Jiji Thomson said here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after a review of the project with officials of the state government and SmartCity, the chief secretary said the work relating to the project and the civil work on the roads have made good progress in the last three weeks.
The chief secretary said a regulator will be built on Kadambrayar to contain flooding in the area.
The government will conduct a resurvey of five points in the land earmarked for SmartCity on which there are suspected encroachments.
The survey will be completed in one month. He said the government will soon approve the estimate the PWD has prepared for a new road of 900 meters connecting Brahmapuram to Karimugal.
The chief secretary said there will be a minor change in the alignment of the Kochi metro link to Infopark.
“It will turn to the right after the Infopark stop so that it shall benefit commuters to the SmartCity also.”
Mr Jaber bin Hafez, vice-chairman, SmartCity Kochi and chief executive officer of SmartCity Dubai, who also attended the review meeting, said the government of Dubai is fully committed to the project.
“This is the only project in which is undertaken as part of a government-to-government agreement and hence there has been no slackness on the part of either government in the completion of the project.”
